IOS 12 will reportedly bring iPhone apps to macOS

Apple confirms iPhone source code leak

Apple is now working on an iOS update codenamed "Peace" and a macOS update called "Liberty", expected to be released as iOS 12 and macOS 10.14, respectively. It talks about all the new features that the new OS update will bring to iPhones and iPads.

This has been the story with iOS 11 through the last six months as numerous bugs and half-baked features were reported frequently. The report reveals how Apple is giving its engineers the freedom to delay features that aren't polished.

With the new strategy of unveiling fewer features annually, iOS users will have to wait until 2019 for any significant iPad-focused software upgrades.

That routine, combined with the fact that Apple opted long ago to make those major updates free to install for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch owners, has helped maintain excitement around iOS in general.

Hopefully these features hit out of the ballpark when they do arrive, considering Apple engineers are putting such an emphasis on making sure iOS updates are more solid and crash-resistant going forward.

Currently, Animoji is only available on the iPhone X and is enabled by the powerful facial recognition technology built into the device's camera. Unlike Google, which introduces new capabilities in a piecemeal fashion as individual apps are updated, Apple goes for an all-or-nothing approach. This way, iOS developers could port iOS apps to the Mac without having to recode big portions of the app.

Despite earlier rumors that Apple intends to focus primarily on improving quality and stability of its operating systems, a new round of rumors from Bloomberg suggests iOS 12 won't be completely devoid of new features.

Apple is reportedly overhauling its software and products strategy. Still expected this year is a redesign of the Stock app and an updated version of Do Not Disturb that gives users more options for automatically rejecting phone calls or silencing notifications. Some iPad-only features have also reportedly been delayed, including a multitasking mode that would let users run several tabs in the same app window, just like on Mac, as well as a feature that would allow users to run two screens of the same app side by side.

According to Bloomberg, this fall there would be no tweak in the home screen, neither would it have any major new features. For example, you could run the Messages app twice side-by-side to interact with two threads at once.
