Bomb blasts rocks Konduga fish market ' killing at least 18 people'

3 Dead 17 Injured As Suicide Bombers Attack Dalori IDPs camps

The Police yesterday confirmed 18 people were killed after a trio of suicide bombers detonated their bombs at a crowded fish market at Konduga on the outskirt of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The police commissioner of Borno state, Damian Chukwu, said at least 18 people died and 22 others were wounded in the attack Friday, according to Reuters.

However, he maintained that normalcy has been restored and everybody was going about his or her normal business in the area.

"Those injured have been evacuated and rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for treatment", he said.

Ali further corroborated the police narrative, when he said the suicide bombers were two females and a male, adding that among those killed was a soldier, who went to the market to buy tea from the local seller.

A source had told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that no fewer than 22 persons were killed and 28 others injured in the suicide bombing. "Twenty-two people were injured", said Mr Chukwu.

Boko Haram has been known to deploy young women and children as suicide bombers, in addition to sending men to attack mosques, markets and other places where crowds gather.

The West African nation has lost more than 20,000 lives in the Northern region since 2009 to the insurgency of Boko Haram.
