Probe on into Trump's son-in-law's foreign business contacts

Mueller Eyes Kushner's Pursuit of Foreign Financing: Report

Special U.S. attorney Robert Mueller has expanded the investigation against the Advisor and son-in-law of U.S. President Donald trump Jared Kushner and considers it to be foreign communications, reports CNN TV channel with reference to informed sources.

It wasn't immediately known what Mueller hopes to find out about Kushner's contacts with foreign investors.

According to press reports at the time, former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was the main focus of the meeting.

According to the news network, this is the first indication that Mueller's enquiry into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election is focussing beyond Kushner's alleged Russian contacts.

It's not clear what's behind Mueller's specific interest in the financing discussions.

According to CNN, Mueller's team has not contacted Kushner's companies for information or requested interviews with any executives.

During the transition, Kushner was also the lead contact for foreign contacts trying to reach his father-in-law, the president elect.

Mr Kushner's father founded the real estate developer and lender.

Over the past two months, investigators have been probing Kushner's solicitation of financial support for 666 Fifth Ave., a debt-ridden Manhattan property that Kushner Companies purchased in 2007. The interests were sold to a family trust that Kushner does not benefit from, a spokesperson said at the time.

But the talks broke down, the Times said. But as with Anbang, these efforts stalled. Kushner Companies still holds half of a $1.2 billion mortgage on the property, but it has not paid a cent. The skyscraper racked up more than $1.4 billion in debt after the 2008 financial crisis, setting the family company scrambling for investors.

A representative for Anbang declined to comment.

Also during the transition, Kushner met with Sergey Gorkov, chairman of Russian state-run Vnesheconombank. Lieu said Kushner declined to answer. In the talks, the officials say, Mr. Kushner has insisted that he maintain his current level of access, including the ability to review the daily intelligence briefing when he sees fit.
