Students Stage Walkout Demanding Action From Congress On Gun Violence

NONE OF US ARE OK’ President Trump is set to meet with survivors of the Parkland Fla. massacre today amid protests including in North Miami above advocating gun control

"This is an extraordinary procedure, but the shooting demands an extraordinary response", he said.

The Republican predicts Congress will pass new gun legislation.

On Feb. 14, a gunman killed 17 people at a Parkland, Florida high school, the latest in a long series of deadly USA school shootings, stirring the nation's long-running debate about gun rights and public safety. The president talked about improving background checks.

The senator told reporters Thursday during a visit to the Kansas Statehouse, "Certainly, nobody under 21 should have an AR-15". He suggests that in some cases, National Guard troops could be called in. They're not going to scare us. How many schools, how many children have to get shot? She called the $1 million an initial amount to help cover the personnel costs for investigative, intelligence and custody/supervision work, plus ongoing and capital expenses stemming from the incident. On March 14, students nationwide plan to walk out of class for 17 minutes to honor each of the victims in the Florida shooting.

Barton said officials will discuss ways to plan activities so that students can have their say. The students reported six unidentified lawmakers refused to meet with them. And one young man said it doesn't even feel as if it's been a week. "You've had your time, please return to fifth period", was said a few times but the students exited the confines of the school fence instead and began to march on the sidewalk surrounding the building.

"This would be obviously only for people who were very adept at handling a gun, and it would be, it's called concealed carry, where a teacher would have a concealed gun on them". High school students from Montgomery County, Md., with the permission of their principals, jumped on Washington's Metro subway system, overwhelming one station near the U.S. Capitol, to hold a pro-gun control demonstration there.

NRA leader Wayne LaPierre spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

"Sen. Rubio, I want to like you".

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., a leading gun control advocate, got it right.

He says opponents of gun rights want to "sweep under the carpet" the failure of school safety, families "and even the unbelievable failure of the FBI" to prevent the shootings.

The National Rifle Association's national spokeswoman Dana Loesch told students at the meeting that the killer in the Florida attack should have never been allowed to obtain a firearm.

Loesch says many in the media "love mass shootings", adding, "crying white mothers are ratings gold". He did not say whether he would turn down an NRA contribution. They love our Country and will do the right thing. The second caller said Cruz was collecting guns and knives and believed "he could be a school shooter in the making".

Thursday's meeting was scheduled to be broadcast live online by the White House, but the livestream was subsequently removed. The father of a student killed in Parkland also was there.

People seated outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for days after the gruesome massacre.

On Wednesday, Trump heard from students and parents impacted by the Parkland shooting, as well as past mass shootings.

Trump was speaking on Twitter Thursday. "I think there's only one security person", said Elana Cohn, 45, who has a child at the school.

He did not immediately offer more details. "How is it that easy to buy this type of weapon?"

He has previously expressed interest in efforts to strengthen the federal background check system. He opposed arming teachers, however, saying the idea of sending his kids to classrooms where teachers have guns is "not something that, quite frankly, I'm comfortable with".

Jared Moskowitz, a Democratic Florida state representative and Stoneman Douglas graduate, said one officer was not enough.

A school district superintendent in Texas has threatened to suspend any student who disrupts school in protest after the school shooting in Florida. He says: "ATTACKS WOULD END!"

Rhodes said that schools are sensitive to violence in schools but that the schools in the district are focused on education, not political protests.

The president had invited the teen survivors of school violence and parents of murdered children in a show of his resolve against gun violence in the wake of last week's shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and in past years at schools in CT and Colorado.

Trump later tweeted that he would "always remember" the meeting.

"If a student chooses to walk out they will be ineligible to participate in any athletics or extracurricular activities (for that day)", the message stated.
