Neymar a doubt for Real second leg after breaking bone

Unai Emery

Metatarsal injuries take about 6 weeks to heal and it could take Neymar at least 2 months to recover.

The Brazilian forward, bought in a record-shattering £200 million deal from Barcelona was stretchered off during Sunday's 3-0 Le Classique win over Olympique Marseille in which he provided two assists.

The Brazil global looks certain to miss the Champions League clash against Real, but he is expected to return to action before the end of the season and be fit in time for the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer.

On Monday morning he posted an image that showed his ankle in heavy strapping and surrounded by a brace.

The Parisian club confirmed on Monday that Neymar had suffered a sprain to his right ankle and a fissure to his fifth metatarsal, but they did not confirm the length of unavailability.

Despite their double injury blow, PSG proved too strong for their fierce rivals Marseille at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.

Real will now be confident they can secure their passage into the quarter-finals, as PSG must score in Paris and cannot afford to concede an away goal to the Spaniards.

"There is a small chance for Neymar to be able to play against Real Madrid - we have to be patient".

PSG did not offer a timetable for Neymar's return, however.

"I don't like players getting injured so I am not glad to see Neymar's injury", Zidane said.

"We normally try to protect him by planning things ahead with him, but it was normal to have him play against Marseille, it was an important game", Emery said. Apparently he twisted his ankle.

Neymar has formed a lethal partnership with Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani since moving to Paris in the summer of 2017, and Emery has been left with a huge task replacing the skilful Brazilian.
