Anthony Scaramucci Says He's Banned From The White House

Department Of Homeland Security Commemorates 15th Year Anniversary

Kelly went on to say that he had clarified Porter's resignation later that evening. Porter posted his resignation in February after his two ex wives accused him of domestic abuse.

Asked about that first statement on Friday, Kelly said, "At that point in time, I thought that statement was accurate" with regard to his own dealings with the staff secretary. Not a press report but inquiry about a second wife had made accusations and included physical abuse and um, and uh, talked to Rob and he resigned. Despite initial statements of support from the White House, Kelly said that Porter resigned on Tuesday although he denied the allegations. "Rob agreed ... to resign at that point".

"Clearly, WH Chief of Staff John Kelly knew about Rob Porter's history of abuse directly from Federal Bureau of Investigation and chose to ignore it", Jayapal tweeted.

Kelly, during an impromptu but lengthy briefing with reporters, said he was only told of "red flags" involving the allegations from Porter's two ex-wives on February 6.

He also took aim at Mr Kelly during a brief interview on Fox News Wednesday night, then again during an appearance on CNN on Thursday morning.

Kelly stood by his statement even after all of the abuse allegations, including photos of one of Porter's ex-wives with a black eye, were published by multiple media outlets.

Then On Feb 8, Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah told reporters this: "His last day was yesterday".

Anthony Scaramucci, the infamously short-lived White House communications director who preceded Hope Hicks in the volatile position, still views himself as a friend and close confidant of the president.

The new timeline presented by Kelly doesn't conform with what Kelly told a roomful of White House staffers at the end of the grueling week when Porter left the White House.

She's "playing government" he reportedly said privately, calling one of her issue areas, the child tax credit, a 'pet project'. Porter would remain on staff for a time before leaving.

Painting a picture of a neophyte staff of outsiders, unfamiliar with Washington and learning how to run the world's pre-eminent superpower, Kelly said he moved to bring habits in line with the Pentagon and military, where he served for decades. "More people than I was comfortable with", said Kelly. Three days after Kelly's arrival, Scaramucci also resigned in ignominious fashion. He said he asked Porter about the claim and "he denied it".

"I have absolutely nothing to even consider resigning over", he said.

Revelations that Porter had access to classified information despite the accusations against him prompted a review of security procedures within the White House.

Kelly said he had started looking into who had clearances and any delays in granting permanent clearances last fall.
