Backed Syria force to redeploy 1700 from IS fight to Afrin

Turkey, EU agree to move together at WTO against US's steel tariffs

In a written statement, Turkish General Staff said the soldier was wounded on March 1 during ongoing Operation Olive Branch in Syria's Afrin.

Arab-Kurdish units of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that they have sent fighters to the Afrin region to help the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in their fight against the Turkish army, according to a press release from the SDF. Rather than trying to stop the latter from fighting the U.S.'s North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally, Washington has repeatedly warned that SDF militants have been distracted from fighting ISIL and that many are rushing to Afrin to fight Turkey.

Ankara kicked off its military assault on Afrin in order to eliminate the YPG, which it considers to be terrorists because of alleged associations with Kurdish insurgents in Turkey.

In January, however, Turkey invaded northern Syria, attacking the YPG's Afrin District, and vowing to hit the rest of the YPG's territory, starting with Manbij and advancing eastward.

Pentagon spokesman Colonel Robert Manning told reporters the pause meant that some ground operations by the SDF, a US-backed umbrella group dominated by the YPG, had been temporarily put on hold.

"Some fighters operating within the SDF have chose to leave operations in the middle Euphrates river valley to fight elsewhere, possibly in Afrin", Galloway said.

"We have clear expectations from the United States".

Hami Aksoy did not say where the summit will be held.

Allegations have been made against Turkey over the deaths of civilians during the Afrin operation.

While it doesn't appear likely to change anything about the USA plan to keep troops within Syria, the Pentagon announced Monday that there is an "operational pause" in the war against ISIS in Syria, because the Kurds are busy fighting the Turks.
