Dreamers support DACA Act in Lincoln

The campaign demonstrates the long odds of achieving action on DACA in Washington as well as the loss of meaning for the March 5 deadline

According to the United We Dream's Facebook page, Blanca Barroso, of Springdale, was arrested on Monday. Though the March 5 deadline has been rendered moot by recent court decisions, more than one million young people who came to the United States illegally as children remain in legal limbo until DACA is either allowed to stand or another set of rules is established. After that, all they could do was wait and hope Congress would pass its own version of the program before March 5, the deadline Trump gave for when the executive order creating the program would be rescinded.

'Cruel and reckless' Among the Senate bills that failed to advance was a Trump-backed plan that would provide a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million Dreamers-the almost 700,000 DACA registrants, plus 1.1 million who were eligible but did not register-in exchange for extra border security funding and dramatic curtailment of legal immigration.

"I am very proud of our students and community today", Office of Student Life Associate Director Danielle Quinones said in an email. Michael Dembrow, D-Portland. "We confirmed our commitment to them".

The fact that President Trump is sending mixed messages - calling Mexican immigrants rapists on one hand and saying he wants a "bill of love" on the other - is frustrating, she said.

As of now, adult US citizens can petition their elderly parents to immigrate, something traditionally known as family reunification, but what Donald Trump calls "chain migration". President Donald Trump has suggested an immigration reform plan that would tie DACA provisions to increased legal immigration restrictions and border security measures, including the building of a border wall.

"For most of us who have DACA who are undocumented in any way, it's really hard to see yourself having a future, not just here but anywhere, because things are so uncertain", said Ramirez.

The program lets young immigrants brought to the US illegally as children, called Dreamers, temporarily stay in the country and get jobs. Judge Alsup agreed that the Trump administration did not follow proper procedures in cancelling DACA and ordered DHS to continue DACA protections.

"We want something that is permanent to ensure all of us have something for us and our families", Solorzano said.

"We need a clean Dream Act".

Titus repeatedly criticized Trump for his "occasionally disparaging remarks" about immigrants and other subjects, but said they weren't relevant to the legal issues surrounding the DACA rescission. Thousands of Dreamers have lost protections from deportation since then.

"I want to say the support is for everyone. (Lawmakers) are like 'Just push it back, it's just the DACA kids'". Both of those cases are pending in federal appeals courts, after the US Supreme Court last month declined the administration's request to have its appeal of the California decision go straight to the high court.

A letter signed by 700 college and university presidents in September 2016, including then Interim President Hunter Rawlings III, said, "to our country's leaders we say that DACA should be upheld, continued, and expanded". Gave them six months, they just don't care.
