SpaceX launches its largest satellite ever

SpaceX Falcon 9 launch scheduled for Tuesday

The satellite was deployed approximately 33 minutes after launch.

Hispasat leases transponders on the board of three third-party satellites, Intelsat 34, Star One C4 and Star One D1, as well.

"Hispasat 30W-6 will provide Hispasat additional Ku and C band capacity in Europe, the Mediterranean and the Americas; reinforce the distribution of audiovisual content in Latin America; and provide connectivity in mobile environments", SpaceX representatives wrote in the mission description. The recent launch was more than a week after the originally planned launch date. The company is expected to launch another Falcon 9 rocket which will carry 10 Iridium NEXT satellites from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California on March 29. Hispasat is the largest stakeholder. This time the payload is a communication satellite, weighing 60 ton. It is anticipated to have a useful life of at least 15 years and weighs 6,092 kilograms (13,430 lb).

When the SpaceX launched this satellite in February last month, a number of space fanatics, government officials and industrial professional of space launches were keen to observe the flying Falcon Heavy. When this rocket lifts off, it'll be the 50th launch of a Falcon 9 since SpaceX first sent the vehicle up in 2010.

SpaceX still practiced the retro-rocket landing procedure, even though the booster fell into the Atlantic and was not due to be recovered.

SpaceX's next launch is now slated for March 29, with 10 satellites for mobile communications company Iridium.

About the launch, CEO Elon Musk said, "At first, it sounds really easy: Just stick two first stages on as strap-on boosters".

In the past few years, SpaceX has experienced some failed missions but after that has been able to complete more than twelve successful journeys to space.

Like all Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches, SpaceX will live-stream Tuesday morning's launch as well, and it can be seen here.

Lewin says SpaceX reaching 50 launches with the Falcon 9 is a "pretty big" milestone.
