Iran pushes Europe to pressure United States on nuclear deal

Iran pushes Europe to pressure US on nuclear deal

"Iran is not a threat to anyone".

The meeting Monday drew protests from a number of university students in front of the foreign ministry in Tehran.

However, recent evidence from the United Nations, which confirms what Saudi Arabia and the U.S. had already said, shows that Iran has been allowing these "peaceful" weapons to fall into the hand of the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen who fired a series of missiles at Saudi Arabia, in violation of two UN resolutions.

Yadollah Javani, the Supreme Leader's adviser at the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), also said it would be a "miscalculation" for the West to think Iran is willing to negotiate on its missile programme.

He emphasized that the Islamic Republic's power will always be in service of strengthening those countries in need.

"Our weapons are meant to promote peace, strengthen stability and security, and to prevent others from thinking about invading our country". Trump's obduracy in killing the #JCPOA stems from the same risky imprudence.

Iran has fired almost two dozen ballistic missiles, at least 16 of them nuclear-capable missiles, since signing the controversial 2015 nuclear deal. "The Iranian nation should be able to defend itself and today, one of the important tools for this defence is missile and missile power", he was quoted by the Iranian Fars news agency as saying.

The deal's European signatories - Germany, Britain and France, as well as Russian Federation and China - are committed to preserving the agreement. He added that Iran's missiles "are defensive and are not created to carry weapons of mass destruction, since we don't have any".

Since taking office, Trump has accused Iran of committing "multiple violations" under the JCPOA and threatened to withdraw the United States from the agreement.

"Everyone should know that we are not concerned about the progress of other countries", Rouhani said.

"Now they ask Iran to enter discussions on other issues".

Last month, French President Emmanuel Macron said that "Iran should be monitored for its ballistic missiles program".
