Trump's military parade planned for Veterans Day - without tanks

Trump’s military parade won’t have this crucial element memo

The Pentagon has begun preparing for President Trump's requested military parade in Washington, D.C., but preliminary plans suggest it won't involve any tanks like the Bastille Day celebration that inspired it.

But the event will "include a heavy air component at the end of the parade", meaning lots of airplane flyovers.

While sketching out guidelines for the parade, the memo further announced it would "include wheeled vehicles only, no tanks - consideration must be given to minimise damage to local infrastructure".

Military experts believe that President Trump wishes to show military might of U.S. to the world as China and Russian Federation do by holding their military parades.

The procession - meant to be a fearsome display of American military might - will roll down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capital to the White House, according to a memo obtained by CNN that was sent by the Pentagon to the the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, giving initial guidance for the parade.

"This parade will focus on the contributions of our veterans throughout the history of the US Military, starting from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 to today, with an emphasis on the price of freedom", the memo said.

Trump was delighted by France's Bastille Day celebration during a visit to Paris last July, and praised the parade months later, saying, "We're going to have to try and top it".

Female veterans will be highlighted, and marchers representing previous wars will wear period uniforms, including historical dress from the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps.

The memo outlining the parade does not mention its estimated costs.

The route will be from the White House to the U.S. Capitol Building.

The Joint Staff will reportedly oversee the planning of the procession, while Northern Command, which oversees US troops in North America, will carry it out.

Last month Trump asked the Pentagon to explore a parade in celebration of American troops, after the Republican president marveled at the Bastille Day military parade he attended in Paris a year ago.

"I think it's great for our country in terms of being a cheerleader and the spirit", he added.
