TV pundit and ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher apologised and admitted he was "totally out of order" after he was caught on camera spitting towards a 14-year-old girl in a moving vehicle.

Jamie Carragher has apologised for "losing his head" in a road traffic incident involving a Manchester United fan and his daughter on Saturday. I said did he hit you and she said, 'He hit me in the face.' For a grown man to do that to a girl who had not done anything.

The dad told how he had been having "a bit of banter" with the former defender which turned ugly after he mention the 2-1 scoreline. "It was a bit more than "hiya Jamie, it was 2-1".

Carragher is now a pundit for Sky Sports.

On Sunday night, Carragher issued an apology on Twitter, saying that he was "totally out of order" and that he had apologised to all of the family personally.

The incident, recorded by the girl's father, ends with the girl saying to her father that Carragher's spittle had hit her in the face.

Carragher says he was "goaded" but also admitted he was "totally out of order" and has apologised to the family.

In the video, Carragher exchanges waves with the girl's dad. It went on for two or three times. It carried on and I drove away but it carried on again and I lost my head. I was goaded ¾ times along the motorway while being filmed & lost my rag.

A spokesman for Sky Sports said the "unacceptable behaviour" will be addressed with Carragher, who works as a football pundit for the channel.

Talking about the incident, the United fan said that he was left fuming by Carragher's actions because his daughter was crying for what had just happened. "I will apologise to the daughter".

She said: "I was extremely angry and disappointed that he could even bring himself to do something like that".
