Most On Crashed Plane From Bangladesh, Nepal

A wreckage of a US-Bangla airplane lies near the crash site at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu

A police official says at least 38 people were killed and 23 injured when a plane crashed as it landed at the Kathmandu airport in Nepal.

Nepalese rescuers work after a passenger plane from Bangladesh crashed at the airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, Monday, March 12, 2018. He told the Kathmandu Post that he was seated near the window and was able to break the window.

Dozens of firefighters and rescue workers responded to the site of the wreck, where scraps of the burned aircraft remained.

Even as the Bombardier aircraft is on approach, the Nepali pilots of other aircraft are heard warning the ATC that the US-Bangla pilot seems disoriented, according to the Nepali Times. "Our pilot was not at fault", US-Bangla Airlines chief executive Imran Asif told reporters at his office in Dhaka. His flight hours are over 5,000.

"Traffic controllers asked the pilot if things were OK, and he replied, 'Yes.' The tower then told the pilot his alignment was not correct, but there was no reply, Chettri added".

A plane crash at Nepal's main airport killed 49 people among the 71 on board, police said Tuesday, after a recording indicated confusion over the landing direction before the plane, flying low and erratically, struck the ground and erupted in flames.

Depending on the direction of approach, pilots have to fly over high terrain before making a steep descent towards the airport, Ascenzo said. "We still have hope that there has been some mistake on the list, or he is in some other hospital". One woman collapsed in tears after checking the list.

"I remember the accident".

"But I came to know that the aircraft had a problem only when it forcibly landed".

The plane was carrying 67 passengers and four crew members.

The most recent crash at the airport causing fatalities was in 2012, when a Sita Air turboprop plane carrying trekkers to Mount Everest hit a bird and crashed after takeoff. "There could be a technical issue but we are yet to ascertain the reason behind the unusual landing", an Indian English language daily quoted Gautam.

Media reports indicate that around 17-30 passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment, some of whom were brought dead on arrival.

In 1992, a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok crashed while trying to land, killing all 113 aboard.

An air safety senior investigator will act as an adviser and a field service representative will support the airline, said spokeswoman Nathalie Siphengphet. Accidents are common and Nepal-based airlines are banned from flying in European Union airspace. It has since expanded with routes to South Asia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

US-Bangla Airlines operates Boeing 737-800 and smaller Bombardier Dash 8 Q-400 planes.
