Craig Mack Flava In Ya Ear rapper dies age 43

Craig Mack, the Grammy-nominated "Flava in Ya Ear" rapper from Brentwood who helped launch Sean Combs' Bad Boy empire, died Monday in his Walterboro, South Carolina, home. They cited music producer Alvin Toney, who was behind Mack's debut album Project: Funk da World.

Mack, originally from Long Island, experienced rap fame in the early 90s, thanks to his smash hit, "Flava In Ya Ear". He released his debut album, Project: Funk da World, that same year, and it was certified Gold.

Mack released his second album "Operation: Get Down" in 1997 before quitting music to devote his life to religion.

Mack's debut album Project: Funk da Word was his most successful peaking at 21 on the USA album charts.

Popular American music artiste, Craig Mack, is dead. After news of his passing broke in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, many of Mack's contemporaries are fondly remembering the former Bad Boy rapper via social media.

Fans of 1990s hip-hop will best remember Mack for his popular songs such as 1994's "Flava in Ya Ear" and "Get Down".

With the spotlight shifting to Biggie, Mack departed Bad Boy.

Close friend DJ Scratch posted on Instagram, "I just got a disturbing phone call".

It is thought he had been ill for quite some time. He just reached out a couple of weeks ago for me to speak on his documentary about his life. Mack was Scratch's tour roadie, helping set up and break down his turntables each night. However, it was the infectious remix - also credited with introducing hip-hop heavyweight the Notorious B.I.G. to the rest of the world - that cemented Mack's place in hip-hop history forever.

"Rest in Peace CRAIG MACK", tweeted R.A. The Rugged Man.

He's survived by a wife and two adult children, said Toney.

Bad Boy was a close family, "brothers and sisters by love and not blood", Joyce said, and Mack was an integral part of that.
