Jonathan Martin charged with making criminal threats

NFL bully victim faces 5 charges following Instagram gun threat

Last month, former National Football League offensive lineman Jonathan Martin made threats on social media to his former Harvard-Westlake High School in Southern California.

The post in question featured a picture of a shotgun, surrounded by ammunition, on a bed with the message, "When you're a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge". With almost a month having passed since the day of Martin's Instagram post, it's not apparent or clear why the police have chose to issue the warrant.

Martin, 28, is pleading not guilty on four felony charges of making criminal threats and one misdemeanor for carrying a loaded weapon in a vehicle last month, according to TMZ. Martin also tagged the Miami Dolphins, former Dolphin Mike Pouncey, and Richie Incognito.

Martin hasn't played in the National Football League since 2015.

Martin accused Incognito and Pouncey of bullying him in 2013 when they were teammates in Miami, and it resulted in an National Football League investigation.

The post was made on February 23, less than two weeks after 17 people were killed in a shooting at a South Florida high school.

Incognito missed the entire 2014 season before signing in 2015 with the Buffalo Bills, where he still plays. It also found Martin was "taunted on a persistent basis with sexually explicit remarks about his sister and his mother and at times ridiculed with racial insults and other offensive comments". Harvard-Westlake closed that day in response to a threat on social media.
