That's a milestone no one would've considered achievable just a few months ago.

And "Black Panther" is in fourth place for all-time superhero domestic grosses - behind 2002's "Spider-Man" ($637.8 million), 2008's "The Dark Knight" ($683.5 million), and "The Avengers" ($705.7 million). By doing so, the 2018 Marvel film will become the sixth highest-grossing movie ever to release domestically. When it does so, it will become the third highest-grossing superhero film globally, trailing behind only Avengers ($1.5 billion) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion).

This weekend the Marvel film became the highest domestic-grossing superhero film of all time, not accounting for inflation, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It only needs a couple million dollars more to do so, which it's expected to earn by the end of this weekend, if not by Monday at the absolute latest. The Marvel movie was able to pull off 5 straight weeks at the number one spot, a feat that hadn't happened since the 2009 release of James Cameron's Avatar. The question now is, can it top Jurassic World ($652.2 million) and Titanic ($659.3 million)? And considering this is the first part of the culmination of the first 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that's going to be quite the box office event.

The movie, which cost $200 million to make before marketing, was a bold move on the part of Disney and Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige. But, until there's actual movement on the sequel, Coogler and co. and continue to revel in Black Panther's astounding critical and commercial success.
