Dozens of England Fans Arrested After Violent Amsterdam Altercation with Police

Dutch police have detained 25 England fans in Amsterdam as the traveling contingent of supports wreak havoc ahead of Friday's friendly match with Holland.

Amsterdam Police said 102 people were arrested on Friday, including "100 Englishmen" and two Dutch fans.

Nearly 60 fans were detained after clashing with riot police in the city's red light district.

Amsterdam Police said "mostly drunken" fans had thrown beer bottles towards officers and a mobile unit was deployed as "unrest by the English supporters grew larger in the city centre".

Sky Sports reported that nearly 30 fans had been held behind bars overnight for drunken behavior in the Netherlands' capital as the Three Lions prepare to take on Ronald Koeman's Oranje side at the Amsterdam Arena. England won the match 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Jesse Lingard.

"Without knowing the details. obviously it's not something I want to hear because most of all for us, I think our players have represented their country really well tonight with pride and some style".

Officers declared that Riot police have arrested 60 people in the red light region.

Riot police were due to remain in Amsterdam to ensure there was no trouble after the game.

Police chiefs have condemned the "appalling" behaviour of a "large number" of England football fans after dozens were arrested in Amsterdam.

"So, anything else that takes away from that performance for them would be a great shame".

England fans are preparing to travel to Russian Federation for the World Cup this summer after violent clashes between the two countries' supporters at Euro 2016 in France.
