Turkey criticises Red Cross for remarks regarding Syrian operations

Turkish army shares 1st video from Afrin town center

Ankara has indicated that once the YPG, linked to the terrorist Kurdistan People's Party, is ousted from Afrin, Turkish forces will advance into Manbij to combat the remaining YPG fighters.

A total of 3,655 terrorists have been "neutralized" since the start of the operation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted.

"But hereafter, we won't feel fear or concern", he said.

"Further operations beyond the border regions will draw in more forces and further exacerbate an already deteriorating humanitarian situation", Colonel Rob Manning, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.

The Turkish army and FSA had launched "Operation Olive Branch" on January 20 with the intention of driving enemy fighters out of Afrin, including members of the Kurdish YPG.

The fight has embarrassed America, which wants to maintain ties with both its traditional North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally and a regional force that has proved its mettle against IS.

At the State Department, spokesperson Heather Nauert said the U.S.is "deeply concerned over reports from Afrin city over the last 48 hours".

"We encourage all parties to allow the free flow of these resources and humanitarian aid. throughout Syria", he said. Most have fought alongside the Kurdish militia in its battle against the Islamic State militant group.

"We remain committed to our North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally Turkey, to include their legitimate security concerns. Russia, whose military turned the tide of Syria's war in favor of President Bashar al-Assad, has succeeded to intensify the wedge between Turkey and the U.S.", Piccoli said. This is a serious and growing concern.

According to Syrian official news agency SANA, the Foreign Ministry has voiced strong protest to Turkey's "illegitimate" takeover of Afrin in two letters addressed to the United Nations on Monday.

Turkey's president has vowed to keep up the pressure against a US-backed Syrian Kurdish militia after his troops captured the Syrian town of Afrin, threatening to expand the military offensive into other Kurdish-held areas across northern Syria and even into neighbouring Iraq.

A network of underground tunnels used by YPG/PKK terrorists against Turkish forces were discovered in Syria's Afrin region on Tuesday, according to Anadolu Agency reporters on the ground.

"There is no doubt that, as it has done in the past, ISIS is taking full advantage of any opportunity to regain its momentum by attempting to retake previously liberated territory and fleeing to more permissive areas".
