Congress wants govt to sack Javadekar, CBSE chief

The police since Friday have questioned 35 people including a coaching centre's owner 18 students and some tutors in connection with the case

Many parents are furious following reports that in the ongoing CBSE board examinations Class 10 maths and Class 12 economic question papers were leaked.

The remarks came a day after the CBSE, in a circular, said that students would have take re-test for Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics subjects.

Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday said that those behind the CBSE paper leak will not be spared and an internal inquiry besides the police investigation is also on to find out the source of the leak.

The class 10 mathematics paper was held on Wednesday, while the class 12 economics paper was held on Monday.

The CBSE's statement added that dates for the same shall be put up on the CBSE website within a week, the board said in a statement.

The occurrence is seen as a challenge "catch-me-if-you-can" on part of gang accused to be behind the paper leak. This may bethe also an unidentified act by someone in possession of the leaked Maths paper.

Reports state that many students claimed that nearly all the papers had been leaked a day before the examinations and demanded that if a reexamination is to be held, it should be held for all the subjects. "Dates for re-examination will be announced soon". "However, at the local level, some miscreants may have circulated messages through Whatsapp and other social media platforms to hurt the sanctity of the exam".

Javadekar termed the CBSE examination paper leak issue as unfortunate and said the culprits would not go scot-free.

Several parents criticised the board for playing with the future of the students by deciding to re-conduct the exams.

He said a gang is responsible for the paper leak and assured of a better mechanism to prevent more leaks from Monday onwards.

A police officer opined that the leak of the examination papers appear to have happened in the evening before the two examinations. This year, the CBSE had changed the marking scheme for Economics and introduced a practical component of 20 marks in the paper, which means that the theory exam was conducted for 80 marks in total.
