The ESPN+ streaming service with access to live sports and original programming will cost $4.99 per month.

Disney's ESPN has for several years now fended off suggestions that the longtime cash cow is losing its sway among sports viewers as subscribers drop off from the network.

ESPN+ will be powered by BAMTech and will include live sports, original content and a library of on-demand programming.

College Sports - ESPN+ will offer baseball, basketball, football, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming volleyball, wrestling and more.

Following ESPN's announcement it will launch its standalone streaming service April 12, the network also unveiled the name and branding for it. The streaming app will offer a live Major League Baseball game every day throughout the regular season. Soccer fans, meanwhile, will have exclusive access to full Major League Soccer out-of-market schedule, and Chicago-area subscribers will be able to view in-market Chicago Fire matches. In addition, ESPN+ will also carry tennis, cricket, rugby and boxing. ESPN says the new app will be part of a "completely redesigned and reimagined ESPN App" that will be "the premier all-in-one digital sports platform for fans".

ESPN+ is the first direct-to-consumer service offering from Disney Direct-to-Consumer and global - the multiplatform media, technology and distribution organisation created by Disney's Media Networks and Studio Entertainment groups.

As revealed earlier this year, the direct-to-consumer offering will be priced at $4.99 per month and offer a dynamic lineup of live sports, original content and on-demand programming.

"The launch of ESPN+ marks the beginning of an exciting new era of innovation for our media businesses- one defined by an increasingly direct and personal relationship with consumers", Kevin Mayer, Chairman, Direct-to-Consumer and International, The Walt Disney Company said in a release.

The network opted to name the service "ESPN+" which is read as "ESPN plus".

In addition to offering nearly 200 games, ESPN is throwing in some extra goodies.
