Russia, Syria: Rebels Near Damascus Must Accept State Rule or Leave

Saudis publicly oppose U.S. exiting Syria while Israel objects quietly

Footage has emerged which shows a tunnel network and underground hospitals left behind by militant groups in Syria's Eastern Ghouta.

The Syrian government is seeking to crush the last few rebel enclaves near Damascus after routing insurgents in eastern Ghouta, which was the last big opposition stronghold near the capital.

"02 de abril de 2018, 00:20Damascus, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) An estimated 1,000 militants of the Failaq al-Rahman radical movement, along with their families, reportedly left the Syrian town of Douma, the only site that was still under terrorists" control in Eastern Ghouta.

Jaish al-Islam, which has been defending the eastern Ghouta town of Douma against a ferocious onslaught by Russian-backed Assad regime forces, has not confirmed the agreement with the regime. Evacuations should be voluntary but in some cases might not have been, he added.

More than 45,000 rebels and their families have been evacuated from Eastern Gouta since March 22 to be relocated in Idlib, according to Syrian authorities.

The rebels were headed to Jarablus, a town in northern Syria where control of the territory is shared between Syrian rebels and Turkish forces.

Hamza Berakdar, spokesperson for Jaish al-Islam, said on Saturday that the armed opposition in Douma refused to leave in what he called a forced displacement.

They were instead pushed into the town by a recent government offensive that broke rebel lines and cleaved eastern Ghouta into three parts, said local media activist Ahmad Khansour.

There was no immediate comment on Monday from the rebels themselves.

"Our position is consistent and clear", he said.

"The armed forces' formations, aided by allied forces, wrapped up military operations in Damascus Countryside's Eastern Ghouta, with full control established all over its cities and towns", said the statement.

In April 2017, under a deal sponsored by regime ally Iran and rebel backer Qatar, almost 11,000 people leave four besieged areas.

Last week, two rebel groups reached an evacuation deal with the Russian army, which resulted in about 19,000 people leaving for the northern province of Idlib. The monitoring group says more than 1,600 civilians have been killed in eastern Ghouta sine the Syrian government's offensive started in February 2018.

The announcement comes after tens of thousands of rebels and civilians are bussed out under a deal sponsored by Iran, Russia and Turkey.
