Later that day, she went to a gun range before walking through a parking garage into a courtyard at YouTube's campus south of San Francisco, where she opened fire with a handgun and wounded three people.
"She would yell from the balcony and say we were nasty", Sanford-Salar said.
People who post on YouTube can receive money from advertisements that accompany their videos, but the company "de-monetizes" some channels for reasons including inappropriate material or having fewer than 1,000 subscribers. Family and friends said Wednesday would have been Aghdam's birthday.
"It's not like she stood out", the retired law enforcement officer said. He said he and others made their way to the exit and at one point when he "looked down" he "saw blood drips on the floor and stairs".
Police officers at YouTube's headquarters following the shooting on April 3. He said he wasn't sure if his store - a long nondescript beige brick building next to an auto dealership, with palm trees surrounding the front entrance - had been contacted by law enforcement but said they would cooperate in any investigation. On Thursday evening, customers streamed in and out carrying rifle cases, and an assortment of shotguns and rifles for sale were on display behind the counter.
According to the Daily Mail, Aghdam is an animal rights protesters who had a vendetta against YouTube, which she called a "dictatorial" site for "censoring her videos and not paying her".
"There is no equal growth opportunity on YouTube, or any other video-sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to", read one posting on the site.
"They make fun of her on Instagram because she encourages Persians to be vegan", the neighbor said.
It was the culmination of a crackdown begun previous year on controversial sites and in the immediate aftermath of scathing criticism following YouTube star Logan Paul publishing a video showing a dead body in a Japanese forest. Authorities described her as "calm and cooperative" during the talk, adding that her father and brother never mentioned anything about "potential acts of violence or a possibility of Aghdam lashing out as a result of her issues with her (YouTube) videos".
KitGuru Says: Whether you agree or disagree with YouTube's censorship, I think it's unsafe to justify the frankly unstable actions of Aghdam as a by-product of the platform's actions.
It's still unclear why she turned the gun on herself and whether she could have continued firing.

When officers found Nasim Aghdam, she was in her vehicle near a strip mall in Mountain View, about 25 miles from YouTube and home to the company's owner, Silicon Valley giant Google.
But her brother said he expressed additional concern upon learning she was discovered by police so close to the YouTube campus.
He said two additional gunshot victims were found at an adjacent business minutes later.
Aghdam was known for protesting against animal cruelty and supporting a vegan lifestyle, relatives said.
It was a 9mm Smith and Wesson that had a capacity of 10 rounds.
Before going to the company's headquarters, she practiced with the weapon, which was registered in her name, at a nearby gun range. To purchase the firearm, Aghdam would have had to pass a background check that reviewed any criminal history, DMV records, outstanding warrants, restraining orders and mental health holds.
YouTube terminated her account following the shooting.
As of right now, the three shooting victims were rushed to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
Mountain View police objected to that characterization and in a statement Wednesday detailed their exchange with Aghdam's family.
A man was in critical condition and two women were seriously wounded in the attack, which ended when Aghdam shot and killed herself. Two women who were wounded have been released from hospitals. The video platform has since responded, stating that it will increase the security across all of its offices worldwide to ensure employee safety.
