Israeli Labour Party suspends ties with Corbyn

Israel's Labour party has cut ties with Jeremy Corbyn as they blasted him for being "hostile" to the Jewish community.

In his letter to the BoD and JLC leaders, Corbyn said:"I appreciate and understand the anger you express and reiterate my determination to fight antisemitism within the Labour party and society at large ..."

"And yet it is my responsibility to acknowledge the hostility you have shown the Jewish Community, and the anti-Semitic statements you have allowed as leader of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom", he adds. "This is in addition to your very public hatred of the policies of the Government of the State of Israel, many of which regards the security of our citizens and actions of our soldiers - policies where the opposition and coalition in Israel and aligned".

"The Labour Party of Israel and the Labour Party UK have a long history of friendship".

Avi Gabbay, chair of Labor Party Israel, said Mr Corbyn had failed to "adequately address" the issue and therefore relations with him could not continue. I have asked the International Secretary of the Labour Party Israel to update me quarterly on this situation and should this suspension change, you will be updated accordingly.

This week Corbyn slammed Israel's handling of the protests in Gaza on Friday, calling for the United Nations to launch an investigation into the killings of 29 Palestinians as well as reviewing the UK's sale of arms to Israel.

Labour sources said Mr Bartley has been suspended from the party yesterday. "I am a strong believer that engaging in meaningful dialogue is crucial to finding effective solutions and resolving disputes and I am clear that such a meeting would be just the start of a fruitful ongoing exchange on eradicating antisemitic behavior and discourse within the Labour party".

Some 250 demonstrators gathered in Westminster today to criticise the Labour leader's approach to tackling anti-Semitism in the party.

The message was read Saturday at a demonstration in support of the Palestinians outside of the prime minister's office on Downing Street and posted on Corbyn's Facebook page.

Last week, Corbyn attended a Passover Seder organized by a left-wing Jewish group that openly calls for Israel's destruction.

Gabbay accused Corbyn of crossing "a risky line" between legitimate criticism of Israeli policy and anti-Semitism.

Avi Gabbay said Tuesday he sent a letter to Jeremy Corbyn announcing his decision.

On the side of the Labour Party were Mr Bolaji Oshinowo and Prince Ajisemoyin, who led their members into the ADP.
