Local Congress Leader in Mangaluru Joins BJP in Morning, Returns in Evening

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released the first list of its candidates contesting the upcoming assembly elections to be held on May 12.

Party leaders said Muslims, Dalits, Lingayats and OBCs could win the main chunk of Congress nominations.

Among the candidates are numerous party's 48 sitting or outgoing legislators from the state's northern, central and southern region, including Bengaluru, which has 28 assembly constituencies.

He said no list of party candidates has been finalised yet as there has been no meeting of the central selection committee. Taking the matter on Twitter, he tweeted, "I am told that a list of Congress candidates for Karnataka election is under circulation".

The BJP has fielded BS Yeddyurappa as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the elections and he will be contesting from the Shikaripura seat.

The battle for Karnataka has begun officially with the BJP on Sunday releasing its first list of candidates.

Four days after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met Veerashaiva community members in Mysuru on Friday, a video showing Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha Mysuru district President Hinkal Basavaraj promising the support of the entire community to the Chief Minister and the Congress party in the district, has gone viral.
