Chris Long can't understand Seahawks' cancellation of workout for 'blackballed' Kaepernick

DEC. 11 2016 FILE

The Seattle Seahawks reportedly postponed a meeting with free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick due to his decision to continue protesting during the national anthem.

Between Kaepernick's ongoing unemployment and the fact that safety and fellow protester Eric Reid can't find a job this offseason, it has become increasingly clear that NFL teams simply do not want to roster players who will kneel during the national anthem. And if a team that plays in a relatively liberal city, is known for its activism, has plenty of veteran leadership and lacks a backup quarterback won't sign Kaepernick? It occurs to me that telling a guy he can't work out for you until he promises to stop kneeling during the anthem might not be helpful to the league's defense. His NFL exile appeared to be coming to an end this week with reports that the Seahawks were bringing him in for a workout, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Seahawks backed off plans to take a look at Kaepernick.

The QB led the Niners to the Super Bowl in the 2012 season, where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

Schefter reported that the Seahawks are still considering bringing in Kaepernick for a workout.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport countered the report, claiming the Seahawks' postponement was not over Kaepernick's steadfast refusal to stop protesting.

Representatives for the Seahawks and for Kaepernick did not immediately respond to TheWrap's request for comment.

The owners plan to discuss the issue again in May at their next meeting. Duane Brown has also protested in the past, and is now on the Seahawks' roster.

The coach is a 9/11 Truther and the players are sufficiently activist as to have earned the title of "the social justice warriors of the National Football League".

The 30-year-old went on to start 11 games that year, but opted out of the rest of his contract with the 49ers in March 2017 and set about getting a new team. It is all the extra baggage that comes with his personal stances that has halted any team from truly making a push to sign him since the end of the 2016 season.
