Shah attacks Congress, says it has no 'internal democracy'

Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Amit Shah will be observing a day-long fast tomorrow April 12

"We aim to do that through our dharna", Union Minister of State for AYUSH, Shripad Naik, said.

"Organizing fasts is symbolic in nature and holds a lot of importance with respect to what the issue at hand is".

BJP workers, led by its local unit president V. Swaminathan, staged a fast near the Swadheshi Mill Complex on Thursday as part of the nationwide protest called by the party central leadership against the Opposition for disrupting Parliament.

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, BJP leader Harak Singh Rawat was seen eating at an event while the BJP fast was going on, ANI reported.

"They (opposition) killed democracy and we will observe the fast to bring their crime in front of world". In a statement, Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan said that the "drama of fasting will not work anymore" as the people are no longer interested in government's false promises.

The BJP chief in his blog named only the Congress and added that a few opposition parties also joined it. Taking a dig at the party, the Congress spokesperson had said that the fast should be to seek an apology from the children whose lives have been jeopardised due to the CBSE and SSC scams.

BJP leader and party's state panchayat convener Mukul Roy said that they are supporting the bandh to protest against "destructive politics" of Trinamul supremo Mamata Banerjee for ensuring Opposition-free panchayat by not allowing the candidates of other political parties to file nomination papers.

The Modi-led fast by the BJP left the Shiv Sena in a tight spot on Thursday.

The fast comes after the Congress, led by President Rahul Gandhi, observed a day-long fast on April 9 in Delhi against atrocities on Dalits and others.

Addressing the gathering, the MP said the Congress and other Opposition parties had put a bad name to the Indian Parliament by causing frequent and continuous disruption in its daily proceedings.

"The BJP disrupted Parliament through proxy allies, engineered deafening din and noise and did not permit the no-confidence motions to be deliberated upon or voted", said Surjewala. Respect for democracy and for public sentiments is not there in the dictionary of the party, ? he said.

Claiming that Modi lost credibility and that his words had no value, the Congress leader said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre had no accountability and had lost direction and objective.

It was clear that Congress members were coming to Parliament for creating ruckus and they would do it the moment its proceedings would begin and then they would do the same outside, Shah said.
