Dick Cheney Called Donald Trump to Thank Him for Pardoning Scooter Libby

On Friday, President Donald Trump issued a full pardon to I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby for perjury charges, according to a White House statement.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, at a briefing with reporters, said the pardon had absolutely nothing to do with with rsquo & Trump;s views about Mueller's evaluation. "I am grateful today that President Trump righted this wrong by issuing a full pardon to Scooter, and I am thrilled for Scooter and his family". "Scooter" Lewis Libby, former Chief of Staff to Vice President Richard Cheney, for convictions stemming from a 2007 trial.

Ms. Plame, if you recall, became a cause celebre when it was revealed her identity as a Central Intelligence Agency operative had been leaked. He was the deputy attorney general who named a special prosecutor to find the leaker whod blown the cover of the CIAs Valerie Plame.

News of the expected pardon was previously reported by ABC News.

In a statement, the president said he doesn't know Scooter Libby, but heard for years that he had been mistreated. Libby was sentenced to 2.5 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

"In 2015, one of the key witnesses against Mr. Libby recanted her testimony, stating publicly that she believes the prosecutor withheld relevant information from her during interviews that would have altered significantly what she said".

A spokesman for Bush said the former president was "very pleased" for Libby and his family. He had been disbarred but was reinstated by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals in 2016. The pardon comes at a moment when the president faces an escalating special counsel investigation of his own.

At the same time, Wheeler writes, "This won't be one (Manafort) or two (Cohen) people Trump has to pardon".

"Suffice to say, he's thrilled", she said of Libby, who she said had just gotten out of an MRI.

The ink on the pardon was barely dry, however, when critics began saying that President Trump had pardoned Libby to signal to those facing charges in Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe that he will pardon them, too, if they are convicted.

White House aides mentioned which Trump fumed more than Federal Bureau of Investigation raids related to the evaluation on Monday of this office at dwelling Michael Cohen, of the personal lawyer.

Ms Plame said a pardon would send a message "that you can commit crimes against national security and you will be pardoned".

Libby said that others had told him that they would not go into public service after seeing how he was treated because of his government role. Last year, he pardoned Joe Arpaio, a former Arizona sheriff who campaigned for Trump, less than a month after he was convicted of criminal contempt in a case involving racial profiling. His record since his conviction is similarly unblemished, and he continues to be held in high regard by his colleagues and peers. Trump has repeatedly called Mueller's probe a "witch hunt" and he and Russian Federation have both denied any wrongdoing.
