Roy Keane speaks out on Cristiano Ronaldo following Juventus heroics

Real Madrid 1 Juventus 4 (agg 4-3): Cristiano Ronaldo nets dramatic 97th minute penalty to send Los Blancos into Champions League semi-finals

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo says he did not understand Juventus players' furious protests - including a straight red card for visiting goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon - at the 93rd-minute penalty which the Portugal worldwide scored to decide Wednesday's dramatic Champions League quarterfinal second leg at the Bernabeu.

Theirs had been a monumental effort and just when it seemed as if the night was heading for 30 more minutes of drama in the shape of extra time, Madrid won a penalty after Medhi Benatia appeared to shove Lucas Vazquez in the back.

Yet, Madrid, who are chasing a third straight Champions League title, were awarded a hotly-contested penalty in stoppage time which Cristiano Ronaldo hammered home to send them into the semifinals for a record-extending eighth year in a row.

To say Juventus were unable would be the biggest understatement of the season. "Lucas [Vazquez] was brought down from behind and if they don't give him the penalty, it's a goal", Ronaldo added.

In the night's other quarterfinal, Bayern Munich advanced with a 0-0 home draw against Sevilla as the newly crowned Bundesliga champions defended a 2-1 advantage from the first leg.

In dramatic fashion, Real Madrid saved themselves from an embarrassing collapse - and probably saved Zinedine Zidane's job.

Mandzukic also became the first player to score a first-half double as an opposition player in a Champions League match at the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo, who clinically converted the spot kick to send Real into the semi-finals, said after the game that he saw nothing wrong with referee Michael Oliver's call.

"We have to react quickly from this blow because we still have titles to play for", he said. Real Madrid's attack was noticeably more quiet after the first 15 minutes, and he even provided the assist for Mario Mandzukic's second goal. For the penalty, my heart was beating hard, but I tried to stay calm.

"Everyone can decide what they want, if it's a penalty or not".

Zidane refused to reveal his thoughts on the penalty award and believed there had been "too much" made of the incident, instead concerning himself with preparations for Madrid's return to league action. "We deserved to go through to the semi-finals over the course of the tie and we can be pleased with that". "We could've scored five or six goals tonight, so we ought to be proud".
