2 more tornadoes confirmed in Arkansas' weekend storms, surveyors say

Two EF-1 Tornadoes Confirmed in Johnson and Franklin Counties

The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down in the city of Danville on Sunday with maximum winds of 110 miles per hour.

It stayed on the ground continuously until stopped just shy of Dry Fork, VA - a path length of 12 miles.

Two EF-2 tornadoes were spawned in storms Friday afternoon through Saturday morning in Arkansas, including one that left four people hurt in Mountainburg.

Sunday's storms did bring a rotating storm into Augusta county but there was no tornado.

Numerous trees were damaged or destroyed.

The weather service estimated Sunday's tornado was on the ground in Craig County for less than a minute but it damaged about a half-dozen homes, flipped a truck over onto another vehicle, and felled around 50 trees. According to the survey, several trees were snapped or uprooted near Timberlake Reservoir.

By the end ot the severe weather event, more that three dozen reports were submitted that spanned from tornadoes, wind damage, flooding, to hail.

The NWS has the final say on whether or not the damage was tornadic in nature or was done by straight-line winds. If all of the damage seems to be unidirectional, all blown down in the same direction, they are likely to determine it was created by straight-line winds. Utility poles were blown down. Several businesses sustained heavy damage and a nursing home lost part of its roof and had to be evacuated.
