Prince Death Investigation Closed With No Criminal Charges Filed

Prince's Death: No Criminal Charges Filed in Case Over Legendary Singer's Passing

There was also nothing to link Prince's use of the counterfeit Vicodin to any other party. The artist said at the time he had fallen ill with the flu. He jokes about having been "under the weather", giving a slight smile. Schulenberg's attorney says he denies writing an illegal prescription but settled the civil claim to avoid the cost of litigation. The conference comes just two days before the two-year death anniversary of Prince. The doctor sent his son, Andrew, to Minnesota that night, and the younger Kornfeld was among those who found Prince's body.

However, CNN reported that after a search through Minnesota Prescription Monitoring Program, only one prescription was issued for Johnson. Ten of those pills were later recovered from a suitcase at Paisley Park.

The doctor also saw Prince on April 20 when Prince was reporting feeling antsy. "Dr. Schulenberg has previously disclosed all information regarding his care and treatment of Prince to his employers, law enforcement, and regulatory authorities in the course of his complete cooperation with all related investigations".

Hindering the probe was the fact that Prince didn't have a cellphone - cutting off a potential trail on how he was getting the Vicodin - but investigators concluded they weren't prescribed.

Almost two years ago this week, the Minnesota music icon was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Chanhassen home, Paisley Park. Schulenberg arrived "on the death scene" at some point, according to a search warrant affidavit. Schulenberg also ran unspecified tests on Prince and showed up at Paisley Park on the day Prince died. The 57-year-old died of an accidental fentanyl overdose - an opioid painkiller 50 times more powerful than heroin. The autopsy report says Prince administered the drug himself. Anyone convicted of doing so could lose their DEA registration - meaning they could no longer prescribe controlled substances - and could face discipline from their state medical board.

But the investigation, which included searches of Prince's computer, mobile phone records of his friends and interviews with associates, determined that Prince suffered from severe pain for a number of years and numerous painkillers were found in his residence, according to Metz.

"There is no evidence that the pill or pills that actually killed Prince were prescribed by a doctor".

February 7, 2018 - Attorneys for Prince's siblings file a motion to view investigative data, saying their time is running out to file a potential lawsuit in Moline, Illinois.

Carver County Attorney Mark Metz scheduled a news conference for Thursday morning in Chaska to announce a decision, the county attorney's office said in a brief statement Wednesday.
