Sixers' Joel Embiid doubtful for Game 3 against Miami

Between Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, it was the Philadelphia 76ers who figured to feature the modern day star power in their opening round series with the Miami Heat. Embiid had hoped to play in Game 2 after the NBA's concussion protocol, but the Sixers are being conservative with his return to the court and ultimately ruled him out. Joel Embiid remains listed as doubtful by Philadelphia for Game 3 of the 76ers' Eastern Conference playoff series at Miami. He underwent surgery to fix the damage and has worn a protective mask during workouts.

Brown said before the shootaround that Embiid was progressing toward being cleared for full contact. "But really not much more than that".

"Today we will get up and down and do some script stuff, not entirely physical stuff, but it is progressing", he said. They expect conditioning to be the toughest obstacle.

"I just tried to get into his body, force him to trust his dribble and when he attacked the basket he pushed off and they called the offensive foul", Winslow said of what happened on his signature play in Game 2. "He is an athlete".

Embiid made the Sixers a better defensive team during the regular season. Whenever the time comes when he does play, I think it will move in a more rapid way. "What i can say is there is a very unified effort with his representation and the people around him. with the people that did the operation, the doctors, with our medical staff, with the team, with me, (and with) the coaching staff". The Heat could take advantage of his absence and grab control of the series. The two veterans have proven that while they may not be consistent enough to start critical games for the Sixers, they can surely provide the spark needed to beat an opponent like Miami.

Embiid, who is looking at a return to play following surgery to address a broken orbital bone on the left side of his face, will ultimately need final clearance from the surgical team responsible for performing the operation, per a source. "The refs let you play a little bit more in the playoffs". He's so gifted. He's intelligent.

"I saw moments", Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.
