George RR Martin Has Some Bad News for Game of Thrones Fans

There's plenty to speculate on as to why Martin would be holding off on finishing the Winds of Winter, but the most likely could be that he's waiting for the HBO series to conclude first (which it will do next year).

Well there are no twists or spoilers here: Author George R.R. Martin has announced that, once again, the sixth novel in hisA Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter, will not be released in 2018.

Meanwhile, the show surpassed the events of the books in Season 7 and will continue to do so in next year's eighth and final season. "You're going to have to keep waiting for THE WINDS OF WINTER".

George R.R. Martin announced Wednesday that a new book from the world of "Game of Thrones" will be released this year. Also thrown in the mix will be Aenys, Maegor the Cruel, Jaehaerys I, Viserys I, and Aegon II. Within it fans will find information on all of the Targaryen kings starting with Aegon I...and this is just the first volume of the history books.

An important message relayed in Martin's new post was to stress that Fire & Blood is not a novel.

For anyone who are like me and wanted to wait to read the rest of A Song of Ice and Fire before watching or catching up on HBO's Game of Thrones, just bite the bullet and watch it. Instead, the author is referring to it as an "imaginary history", after receiving backlash from fans in the past over his term "fake history" when he previously referred to The Princess and The Queen and Sons of the Dragon. Martin has given countless excuses for his procrastination on Winds of Winter over the years, ranging from the distractions from the series, an overwhelming press tour, as well his work on other books and projects.

Mixed within the 989 pages will be various illustrations, but Martin promises it won't be anything like a coffee table book with too many pictures.

None of these developments is likely to affect the final season of Game of Thrones, which is now filming and slated to return in 2019.

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere in 2019.
