Teenagers Die, 1 Goes Missing As Flash Flood Hits Southern Israel

FOX2NEWS broadcasts footage of vandalized headstones at a St. Louis area Jewish cemetery

Nine girls and one boy, a lot of them aged 17 or 18, were swept away to their deaths yesterday when flash floods engulfed Nahal Tzafit, a riverbed canyon in the Arava region, south of the Dead Sea.

Police arrested Yuval Cohen, principal of the Bnei Zion pre-military academy in Tel Aviv, and 27-year-old Aviv Bredichev, one of the group's guides, Thursday night on suspicion of negligent homicide in the death of 10 students during a field trip.

The body of a tenth Israeli student was recovered late Thursday night by search and rescue personnel who continued efforts despite a blanket of darkness combined with incredibly hard and harsh conditions to track down the girl who had been torn away in the rushing water from her fellow classmates.

Mr. Glick said the academy existed to let Israeli teenagers postpone their military service by a year and spend that time studying Israeli history, Zionism and other topics to make their army service more meaningful. Some 15 were rescued mostly unharmed.

"Some have been rescued and some are still out there".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described it as a serious disaster. "We will keep going until we find them all", she said earlier, when several of the students were being treated as missing.

"Our thoughts and prayers go to our brothers, children, our loved ones, and those in danger". "We embrace the families with grief and pray for the speedy recovery of the wounded".
