Protesters Say They'll Meet Trump With 'Carnival Of Resistance' In UK

- The US ambassador to Britain, Robert Wood Johnson, said Mr Trump "really wants" to meet the Queen, adding the president would "definitely" be coming to London, despite the warnings of likely demonstrations.

Mr Corbyn had previously indicated a desire to speak to Trump, and discuss his "problems with Mexicans and Muslims" whenever the US President planned to visit the UK.

The Prime Minister said: "I am looking forward to welcoming President Trump to the United Kingdom for a working visit on July 13".

US President Donald Trump will make a 24-hour visit to Britain in July, but will largely avoid the capital London.

Mr Trump was a frequent visitor to Scotland before entering the White House. He also reportedly won't be honored with an "official banquet" at Buckingham Palace. "He will also no doubt see that Londoners hold their liberal values of freedom of speech very dear".

The visit is "very, very symbolic and very important", given the a significant trading and investment partner for the US, the ambassador told LBC radio presenter Nick Ferrari.

In an interview with LBC radio Mr Johnson said that Mr Trump was "thick-skinned" enough to deal with any protests and suggested that he might be able to win over critics such as London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Commons Speaker John Bercow. That state visit will be put off a little bit but maybe next year he will do that.

The announcement comes during a busy day for Trump, in which he praised rapper Kanye West, said he'd take no action against FBI investigator Robert Mueller, and confirmed that Michael Cohen was in fact his lawyer, despite previously claiming not to be that close to him. Additionally, thousands participated in a march in London to protest Trump's Muslim ban in February 2017.

Asked about the royal wedding between Prince Harry and American-born Meghan Markle next month - to which he said he was not invited - Johnson agreed the event would draw the two countries "even closer".

"He's going to get a lot of criticism".
