Suspect in shooting death of ME officer arrested after days-long manhunt

- Maine State Police captured John Williams on Saturday.

On the day police say Williams shot and killed Cole, Williams was due in MA court to answer to gun charges he was arrested for in March.

His capture ends a nationwide manhunt for the suspected killer of Cole, the 25th officer to be gunned down in the line of duty this year.

Williams was uninjured, police said.

Williams was angry about his girlfriend's arrest and had told a friend that "as of tomorrow, I'll be a fugitive".

Shirtless and shoeless when captured, Williams, 29, appeared to be exhausted when he was led out of the woods.

Officials say the man accused of killing a ME sheriff's deputy is being held in the state's maximum security prison. Officers put him into the back seat of an unmarked state police vehicle, and detectives whisked him away. According to CNN, more than 200 officers from various agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation were involved in the search for the shooter who shot and killed Cpl.

Helicopters, cruisers and tactical autos prowled the area, making the area people of three, 500 nervous as scores of cops poured into the realm.

The Washington Post reports that at least 200 law enforcement officials spent over three days searching for Williams, and on the fourth day, he was finally apprehended at a remote campsite near Route 139 in Norridgewock around 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Williams was wanted in the fatal shooting this week of Cpl.

The officer said Williams was in a camp then came out while a search team was on the perimeter. He's expected to make his initial court appearance in the next few days.

It isn't clear just yet if this had anything to do with Cole and Williams' encounter.

Sheryl Cole promised to Williams that he'd be treated the way her late husband would've treated him: "with dignity and respect".

The arrest brings to an finish a prolonged manhunt to search out the suspect after he fled into the wilderness, Â in accordance with Norridgewock police.
