Facebook gets into the online dating business

Mr Zuckerberg 33 is trying to hire a new speechwriter to help him navigate the dodgy territory he's chartered his company into a amid accusations of data breaches and fake news

Weber and her team will continue to use Facebook Spaces for her upcoming show It's a Virtual Life, she said. Noting that people tell him all the time that they met their partner on Facebook. He described the new feature as a "simple control" that will allow users to remove all browsing history on Facebook, including, but not limited to previously accessed apps and websites that make use of Facebook's ads and analytics tools. Interested users will have to opt in, create a profile (which won't be visible to friends) and browse other users who've opted in.

"Let's say, your friend is testifying in Congress", said Zuckerberg. In April, Facebook limited the amount of information third-party developers can collect from users without Facebook's express approval within its application programming interfaces.

While Facebook dating isn't live just yet, the company says it will begin testing later this year.

Looking to divert some of the attention being paid to Facebook's failings, Zuckerberg pointed to the good that has come from this massive web of digital friendships spanning the globe, from disaster relief to blood donations.

Clearly, Facebook can't stop investing in new tools to attract more users and keep them glued to its service.

The slew of announcements at the developer-centric "F8" conference also included the arrival of a stand-alone Oculus Go headset aimed to get more people using virtual reality. That restraint, coupled with a $399 price tag and the cost for a PC to power the device, is one of the reasons VR so far has mainly appealed to lovers of video games who want to play in three-dimensional artificial worlds.

"We're building a version of this for Facebook too".

Spaces includes some unique features not found on traditional Facebook.

Facebook is adding dating features to its main app, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Tuesday.

The company said it would take "a few months" to build the feature.

The company has been under fire recently for possibly not considering users' privacy and security in its features.

Damian Collins, a Conservative who heads the House committee, said United Kingdom lawmakers are prepared to send a summons compelling Mr. Zuckerberg's appearance in London unless he volunteers to provide oral testimony to investigators, according to a copy of the letter released by Parliament.

Speaking in San Jose, California, at Facebook's f8 gathering of tech folks, startups and others, Zuckerberg said to cheers that the company is re-opening app reviews, the process that gets new and updated apps on its services.
