Rajasthan dust storm: 27 dead, over 100 injured

Duststorms and thundershowers kills 69 in UP and Tajasthan, over 100 injured

Lucknow/Jaipur: The extent of damage caused by the high-intensity dust storm - which was followed by thundershowers - that hit parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on Wednesday is becoming clear on Thursday.

Besides these, at least 38 people have been injured across the state, and 36 of them are from Agra district.

The Agra district of Uttar Pradesh was one of the worst hit with more than 30 people killed. Several electricity poles and trees have also been uprooted due to strong winds.

The state government has said that it is assessing the loss incurred. May the injured recover soon.

The storm uprooted many trees and snapped electricity supply in state capital Dehradun.

Relief Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said other districts affected were Bijnor, Bareli, Saharanpur, Pilibhit, Firozabad, Chitrakoot, Muzaffarnagar, Rae Bareli and Unnao.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officers to personally monitor the relief work and provide medical aid to affected, warning that no laxity will be tolerated on part of the officials.

A powerful dust storm has killed 77 people and injured 143 more in north India.

At least 22 persons have been killed and over 100 have been injured due to.

Hemant Kumar Gera, Secretary, Disaster Management and Relief, said almost 100 were injured in the disaster, according to media reports.

The government has also announced a Rs 4 lakh compensation to families of those killed in the disaster. "My condolences to families of those who have lost their lives".

This cloud cluster was continuously reinvigorated as it moved eastwards by available moisture travelling as far as eastern Uttar Pradesh wreaking havoc along the way in places such as Dholpur, Alwar and Dausa in Rajasthan, Agra in Uttar Pradesh.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister expressed sadness over the incident and cancelled his birthday celebrations. "Blood donation camps and Janhit programs can be continued by the organisers", Gehlot tweeted.
