The explosion, which happened in Stamford Hill last night, was reported to have been caused by someone throwing a phone into the fire.

According to reports, the explosion occurred during the festive kindling of the fire.

The annual event for Lag BaOmer drew hundreds to Stamford Hill.

Footage of the fire show it turning into a fireball shortly after being lit.

Ten people are believed to have been hospitalized.

Volunteer ambulance service Hatzola said they assisted emergency services to treat "multiple patients" for burns.

As soon as a torch was used to light the bonfire, there was an explosion which sent crowds running.

Police confirmed the injuries, adding: "No criminal allegations reported".

The Metropolitan Police said no serious injuries were reported.

Yeshiva World News reports the Rebbe leading the ceremony had given a speech about the dangers of smartphones and said he would be burning his.

Bonfires are the biggest symbol of the Lag BaOmer festival celebration around the world, which commemorates Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai.
