If you use Twitter, you should change your password right away

Twitter advises all users to change passwords after glitch that exposed some in plain text

Essentially, the bug that they have found unmasks the users' passwords that are stored in a hidden internal log that is normally encrypted and can not be viewed by employees. While Twitter says that it sees no signs of breach or misuse, it's recommending that users "consider changing" their passwords... But, the company does ask that you "consider changing your password on all services where you've used [the] password".

Unfortunately, a coding bug in Twitter's systems caused those passwords to be shown in plaintext in an internal log before completing the hashing process, Twitter's chief technology officer Parag Agrawal explained in a blog post.

Twitter has made an appeal to more that 330 million users on its platform to change their Twitter account password.

"This is an industry standard", Argawal said.

You need to change your twitter password on an immediate basis as a bug has been discovered in its internal system. Though Twitter has fixed the Bug for precautionary measures and to stop any kind of misuse of user's account password.

We are sharing this information to help people make an informed decision about their account security.

Not the first time Twitter is having this kind of issue though.

Agrawal initially said via a Tweet that the company "didn't have to" share the information to the public, but chose to because "it's the right thing to do".

Not only should you change your password, but if you use this password on other services or apps too, you should change those too.

According to the report, Twitter sold public data access "for one day" in 2015 to Aleksandr Kogan, then a psychology researcher with University of Cambridge, and his company Global Science Research (GSR).

After the recent disclose that Twitter sold data to Cambridge Analytica, Twitter already received severe criticism. I've believed we have to.

You can reset your password by logging into Twitter and navigating to the Settings page. I have felt strongly that we should.

Twitter also recommends that users activate the login verification, two factor authentication (2FA) capabilities for their Twitter accounts.
