Liverpool News Philippe Coutinho discovers Mohamed Salah’s Real Madrid ‘agreement

Liverpool's Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Salah controls the ball during the English Premier League football match between Liverpool and Stoke City at Anfield in Liverpool, north west England on April 28, 2018. Online in-match use limited to 75 images, no video emulation.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named as the Football Writers' Association, FWA, Player of the Year.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane was in third place.

Salah has 43 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions this season.

Egypt qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 28 years and their chances in Group A against hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay rest largely on the 25-year-old Salah's shoulders.

With both Salah and De Bruyne miles ahead of the rest, only eight other players received votes from FWA members.

As he walking down the tunnel, they coaxed him back out onto the pitch with chants of 'Mo Salah, running down the wing, the Egyptian King'. You need options when you win the ball and that's what Mo is doing pretty well and is why we changed the system at [Manchester] City in the first half [of the Champions League quarter-final second leg]. He is also the first African to receive the award and we congratulate him on a magnificent season'.

He has also helped lead Liverpool to the semi-finals of the Champions League by netting 11 goals in 13 European games.

"He is a great guy, very humble, very calm", Moreno said of Salah to Onda Cero radio.

Eyebrows were raised when Liverpool made a decision to fork out £36million on Salah in June as he failed to make the grade at Chelsea during his previous spell in England.

He has matched the records of Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez - who all scored 31 goals in a season - with two games remaining.
