China-Japan call for North Korea's denuclearisation through dialogue

The President’s assertion he would not cut the number of troops in the region comes despite claims he is looking at reducing America’s military presence in the South

Heartwarming pictures of North Korean Leader Kim Jong-Un being greeted at the border by South Korean President Moon Jae-In dominated news last week.

Then-CIA Director Mike Pompeo, before taking office as USA secretary of state, met Kim last month and reported the North Korean leader was not demanding the withdrawal of all US forces as a precondition for a summit with Trump.

The media specified that despite the government's call to refrain from any agitation, North Korean defector-activists were going to launch balloons with propaganda materials against North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un.

Since Kim met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Trump has been steadily offering tidbits about his expected meeting with the North's ruler-even hinting that three Americans imprisoned there could soon be freed.

Trump, a former reality TV star who likes to build suspense about upcoming presidential news, did not give a date or location for the North Korea summit, and White House officials did not immediately provide further clarity.

At the time of its creation, the North said that Pyongyang Time was aimed at pushing back against Japanese colonial rule, which took place from 1910 to 1945 and saw the clocks in Korea changed to match Tokyo time.

But Trump also sounded a note of caution, saying he was prepared to walk away if U.S. demands for North Korea to relinquish its atomic arsenal in a complete, verifiable and irreversible way were not met. And a lot of things have happened, with respect to the hostages.

"Kim said 'the United States feels repelled by us, but once we talk, they will realise that I am not a person who will fire a nuclear weapon to the South or the U.S. or target the USA", according to Yoon. In March, Washington and Seoul began negotiations on how much South Korea should offset the costs of the deployment in the coming years.

At the same meeting last week, Kim also vowed to begin shutting down North Korea's nuclear test site in Punggye-ri this month.

U.S. President Donald Trump has not asked the Pentagon for options to reduce U.S. forces based in South Korea, U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton said in a statement on Friday.

Trump hinted that the release of Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak Song and Tony Kim was in the offing, but again was sparing on the details.
