Five Indians abducted by armed men in Afghanistan

US ready to work with Pakistan to promote regional peace

At least 7 Indian engineers working in a power plant in Afghanistan were abducted by a suspected militant group from the northern province of Baghlan on Sunday.

According to media reports, Baghlan governor Abdul Hai Naimati was quoted as saying that the terror group said it had abducted the staff members in error, believing they were government employees.

It was the latest attack on election preparations and comes nearly a week after 25 people were killed in a double bombing in the Afghan capital Kabul. The Taliban claimed the attack.

Kidnapping of locals for extortion is common in Afghanistan.

Baghlan provincial council has linked the incident to the Taliban, but no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction so far. In the past, the insurgents have cut power lines in the region, which are used to import electricity from central Asian countries to the Afghan capital, Kabul.

An Afghan official says that at least two border policemen have been killed after an attack by a group of suicide bombers in the southern province of Kandahar. IS is not known to have a presence in Khost, but has expanded its footprint into other areas in recent years.

An Afghan wounded man lays on a trolley as others rush him to a hospital following blast at a voter registration centre in Khost Province on May 6, 2018. Neither had an exact figure for casualties. Police spokesman Karim Yuresh stated another civilian was wounded in Sunday's attack, at an area where Taliban and it is are still active. "Now, the ISI-backed Taliban will find it hard to attack Indian interests in the country for fear of annoying Big Brother Beijing".
