Daesh claims responsibility for attack in Afghanistan's Jalalabad

Suicide Bombers, Gunmen Attack Tax Office In Eastern Afghanistan

All four assailants were killed by security forces after five-hour gun battle.

Militants have staged several attacks across Afghanistan this year.

Earlier, an explosion at a mosque in the eastern Afghan province of Khost killed at least 13 people and wounded 31 and the casualty total may rise.

The attack took place on Sunday afternoon when a suicide attacker detonated a bomb near a building, the TOLO broadcaster reported.

The governor's spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News that nine people had been killed so far and 39 others injured in the attack. More explosions were heard later coming from inside the building, the official added.

Security forces are fighting back, he said, adding that six civilians have been killed.

Jalalabad is the capital of restive Nangarhar, which borders Pakistan. Both the Taliban and a local Islamic State affiliate have carried out numerous attacks in Nangarhar.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

April saw a series of attacks across the country targeting voter registration centres as Afghanistan gears up for long-delayed legislative elections due in October.

However, the Taliban is now taking part in its annual spring offensive and has launched a number of attacks in recent weeks. Most have been in the capital Kabul.
