Jared Kushner Granted Permanent Security Clearance After FBI Background Check

Jared Kushner finally gets permanent security clearance

President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, has been granted a permanent security clearance.

The granting of security clearance potentially brings to an end a troubled patch for Kushner.

Mueller's investigators are examining Kushner's business dealings during the presidential transition, and CNN has reported that other witnesses were asked about these matters in interviews earlier this year. Lowell said that akin to other staff members of the White House who have reportedly attempted to answer all questions posed by the special prosecutor's team, Kushner did everything in his power to answer truthfully and expedite the "conclusion of the investigations".

Kushner's delayed clearance raised questions about his role in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election interference and whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russians.

Prosecutors had pushed off Papadopoulos' sentencing for months since his plea a year ago to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"Since then, he has continued this complete cooperation, providing a large number of documents and sitting for hours of interviews with congressional committees and providing numerous documents and sitting for two interviews with the Office of Special Counsel". This caps a almost 18- month review of his security application, which was held up after Kushner failed to disclose contacts he had with foreign officials - including Russians - as required by law.

Kushner, who maintains a wide-ranging White House portfolio that includes leading the administration's Middle East policy, lost his clearance under a new set of White House procedures implemented after a top White House aide, Rob Porter, was permitted to remain in his position for months after the Federal Bureau of Investigation uncovered allegations of spousal abuse against him. "Having completed these processes, Mr. Kushner is looking forward to continuing the work the president has asked him to do". And Mr. Trump, who once considered Mr. Kushner a trusted adviser, continues to tell friends he wishes that Mr. Kushner and Ms. Trump would return to NY, although Mr. Trump has not voiced this view to his daughter and Mr. Kushner in several months.

It was not immediately clear whether Kushner had access to some classified material in the months since his clearance was downgraded.

Some experts said the evolving disclosures might have been disqualifying for another person, and it could also explain the delay in granting Kushner a clearance.
