Trump steps up attacks on FBI's probes during campaign

President Trump is attacking again fired FBI Director James Comey saying'The FBI is a fantastic institution but some of the people at the top were rotten apples. James Comey was one of them. I’ve done a great service for this country by getting rid

In recent days, he has been zeroing in on - and at times embellishing - reports that a longtime us government informant approached members of his campaign during the 2016 presidential election in a possible bid to glean intelligence on Russian efforts to sway the election.

The mere existence of a government informant in an investigation doesn't mean a probe is tainted.

In a series of tweets, Trump indicated that he is more than convinced that the then Barack Obama administration placed a spy on his presidential campaign.

The first briefing was held with Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan; the GOP chairs of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes of California, and the House Oversight Committee, South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy; and the respective committees' top Democrats, Rep. Adam Schiff of California and Virginia Sen.

"They may have a different version of the truth than we do", Giuliani said.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., defended the House Intelligence Committee's requests for records from the DOJ about the Russian Federation investigation, following several weeks of a contentious back-and-forth between House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and DOJ officials.

Trump is tweeting an interview aired Thursday night on the "Tucker Carlson Tonight" program.

This outraged Democrats, who demanded that at least one member of the opposition party be included in the first meeting, so as to ensure that the administration was sharing the same information with Nunes as it was with the Gang of Eight.

Meanwhile, rank-and-file Federal Bureau of Investigation agetns are coming forward to say they are willing to testify about the corruption of James Comey, Andrew McCabe, and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, The Daily Caller reported this week. He was never a part of the Trump campaign.

The action then shifted to the US Capitol where Federal Bureau of Investigation director Chris Wray, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein who oversees the Russian Federation investigation, and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats helped brief the so-called Gang of Eight.

White House adviser Jared Kushner, who's President Donald Trump's son-in-law, has been granted a permanent security clearance, according to a person with knowledge of the decision but wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the matter. Former FBI Director James Comey, who was sacked by Trump previous year, tweeted Wednesday that the agency's use of secret informants was "tightly regulated and essential to protecting the country".

In his tweets, Trump also quoted Andrew Napolitano, a former New Jersey Superior Court judge and frequent Fox News commentator, saying that "it's clear that they had eyes and ears all over the Trump campaign". Nunes has demanded information on an FBI source in the Russian Federation investigation.

The Justice Department had rejected Nunes' original request, writing in a letter in April that his request for information could put lives in danger.

Sanders said no White House staffers - including Kelly - will be present at Thursday's meeting. Former federal prosecutor Daniel Goldman was on MSNBC Wednesday morning to explain the difference between a spy and someone who just gives information to the authorities.

The statement from the White House added: "They also conveyed the President's understanding of the need to protect human intelligence services and the importance of communication between the branches of government".
