Service Dog Delivers 7 Puppies at Tampa International Airport

A service dog named Ellie which is short for Eleanor Rigby went into labor and delivered eight puppies in the middle of a terminal at Tampa International Airport on Friday

Ellie's owner was right by her side as the two-year-old Labrador retriever gave birth unexpectedly to a litter of eight, include seven male puppies and one female puppy.

Tampa Fire & Rescue's Aircraft Rescue Firefighters (ARFF) paramedics were on hand to help with the unusual delivery.

And even though they missed their flight, Van Atter is going hom e with some special souvenirs born in the Sunshine State. Proud papa Nugget - also a service dog - was nearby.

Van Atter said she has mobility and pain issues, Nipps said, and the dogs were service dogs, though Eleanor Rigby was still in training.

A yellow lab named Eleanor "Ellie" Rigby and her owners were getting ready to board a flight when she went into labor. She said they knew Eleanor Rigby was pregnant, but believed the excitement of being in the airport around so many new people may have triggered the early birth.

An airport spokesperson told Fox 35 that a woman and her daughter were flying from Tampa to Philadelphia.

So far, Ellie has delivered five boys.
