'Roseanne' Canceled After Star's Racist Tweets

ABC cancels 'Roseanne' following Roseanne Barr's racist Twitter rant

Paramount Network, TV Land, and CMT will all cease broadcasting episodes of the show following Roseanne Barr's racist and antisemitic tweets that resulted in ABC cancelling the reboot. Barr's co-stars and staff on the show also swiftly and strongly condemned her comments about Jarrett, with Roseanne producer and star Sara Gilbert calling it an "incredibly sad and hard day for all of us, as we've created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love - one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member".

"He apologized. He said he had zero tolerance for that sort of racist, bigoted comment and he wanted me to know before he made it public that he was canceling his show and so I appreciate that they did that so swiftly".

Jarrett, who said she was "fine" after the slur, urged in an MSNBC special Tuesday about racism that the incident become a teaching moment.

May 30, 2018In a since-deleted tweet earlier Wednesday, Barr wrote: "guys I did something unforgiveable so do not defend me". Faulkner states, "I don't understand it to be anything other than free speech...and it is extremely offensive but it is just that".

Roseanne's announcement that she'd be leaving Twitter behind turned out to be untrue.

Mrs Obama told the New York Times: "I can count on someone like Valerie to take my hand and say, "You need to think about these three things".

Barr has made no secret of her affinity for President Trump, and he even called her the day after the show premiered to record ratings back in March. "You throw me under the bus. nice!"

In the post-firing tweet, Barr apologized to "all the wonderful writers (all liberal) and talented actors who lost jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet".

Trump chose not to weigh in on the controversy during his Tuesday night rally, though he apparently decided that he'd heard enough upon learning that ABC issued a formal apology to Jarrett. It was a reference to Valerie Jarrett, longtime adviser to President Obama, who's African-American.

Barr has been tweeting for some 10 hours now and doesn't seem to show any sign of stopping.

The current Roseanne was ABC's biggest hit of the 2017-2018 season, drawing an average 18.7 million viewers, second only to CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, according to Nielsen data through May 20.

I'm sorry 4 my tweet, AND I will also defend myself as well as talk to my followers.so, go away if u don't like it.

'I am hurt, embarrassed, and disappointed.
