Trump tweeted, "We have put a great team together for our talks with North Korea. So be it!", - he wrote. Sung Kim, the former U.S. ambassador to South Korea and current ambassador to the Philippines, led the USA delegation, an official said.

Preparations for the summit is in full swing, White House confirmed. During Saturday's inter-Korean summit, the Korean leaders agreed to "positively co-operate with each other as ever to improve (North Korea)-U.S. relations and establish (a) mechanism for permanent and durable peace".

Kim Yong Chol would be the highest-level North Korean official to travel to the United States since 2000, when Vice Marshal Jo Myong Rok visited Washington and met President Bill Clinton amid warming ties between the wartime foes.

North Korea's flurry of diplomatic activity following a torrid run in nuclear weapons and missile tests in 2017 suggests that Kim Jong Un is eager for sanctions relief to build his economy and the worldwide legitimacy the summit with Trump would provide.

His journey to the USA caps a frenetic few days of meetings between North Korean and American officials.
