Arbaaz Khan summoned by Thane Police in connection with IPL betting case

The police had recently caught a betting ring and they had also arrested the 42-year old Sonu Batla.

Mumbai police have summoned Arbaaz Khan, superstar Salman Khan's younger brother and an actor-filmmaker, in connection with an alleged online betting scam related to the recently concluded IPL.

It appears that there is an ongoing investigation regarding an IPL betting case in relation to the bookie Sonu Jalan, who was arrested on betting charges, as reported by Indian Express. The culprit is well known to be doing his betting in the country as well as overseas.

The Police further revealed that there are also names of Bollywood celebrities.

Two days after Jalan's arrest, the Thane anti-extortion cell found a diary with phone numbers of more than 100 bookies. "We found the book during a search at his home".

Sonu Jalan is also said to be associated with Dawood Ibrahim and is a close aide of another top worldwide bookie running the racket. It is a huge betting scam that is predicted to be in the range of 500-600 crore and the police are trying to find out from Arbaaz what role he has in the entire scene. The police said Jalan travelled to Sri Lanka during an global tournament in 2016 and a probe is on to find out if there was any betting-linked match-fixing at the time.

Arbaaz's father, Salim Khan, spoke to Times Now and said that the actor is currently now in town.

A source said, Sonu Jalan conducted a sting operations with multiple celebrities who were betting in the Indian Premier League matches, there is a likelihood of names beyond Salman Khan's brother coming out in the case.

This is not the first time the cash-rich domestic professional Twenty20 league is coming under the radar of the gamble.
