White House aide who joked about McCain 'dying' is out

White House still won't apologize for Mc Cain joke

John McCain's well being - main critics, together with some Republicans, to demand her firing - is not working within the West Wing, a spokesman confirmed Tuesday.

But is Sadler leaving the White House because of her remark?

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The 81-year-old Arizona Senator has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer.

Updated 7:25pm: Post was updated to include a statement from the White House.

Sadler's comment enraged Cindy McCain, the senator's wife, and caused a furor on Capitol Hill among lawmakers in both parties. In 2015, then-candidate Trump dismissed McCain's time as a prisoner of war, saying he was considered a war hero only "because he was captured", adding that "I like people who weren't captured".

Her father was "all about character and bipartisanship and something greater than yourself", Ms McCain said. "It happened yesterday", former vice president Joe Biden, who was on the presidential ticket that beat McCain in 2008, said following the comment. "I did not receive that".

Trump, who was infuriated by the release of the information to the news media, called Sadler and other communications staffers into the Oval Office to ask who might have leaked Sadler's comments.

The White House never publicly apologized for Sadler's comments, instead focusing on how the remarks were leaked to the press.

Citing three sources, CNN reports that Sadler no longer works as a special assistant to the president.

She met press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders last week to discuss staff downsizing in the Communication Department to check flow of leaks from the White House, and suggested Sadler's name, the Daily Beast reported.

The effort to find leakers has led to an acrimonious atmosphere at the White House, aides have told CNN. "And they should be fired".
